Oh splendid victory
The triumph of gallant knights
Adorned by a holy nimbus
The battle was won
Praise be to his name
With that of a lion heart
Saracens have been vanquished
Impious heathens have been cast out of the holy lands
Sacred grounds awash with crimson blood
A war waged in the name of God
In God’s name
What have we done
No aspect of war is holy
War is only the justification of mass murder
No matter how great the cause
It is a crime none the less
And a burden we must carry
A burden so great
So heinous
We give it God’s seal of approval
And proceed
To find
The means to an end
Of men
